Two pieces of legislation now before the Provincial legislature will have a big impact on community life in Don Mills. These are Bill 51, dealing with reforms to the OMB, and Bill 53, dealing with the City of Toronto.

Bill 51 was introduced as a major reform to the way the OMB works. Unfortunately, although there are some positive aspects to it, there are also some major flaws in the legislation. Under the current proposal it will be harder and in fact almost impossible for communities such as ours to impact any decisions that are referred to the OMB. There are also no changes to the OMB itself in the way of appointments or its role as the decision maker in planning matters of local dispute.

Bill 53 deals with the special provisions for the City of Toronto. There are serious concerns among ratepayers about this legislation. More info is on the Municipal Affairs page.
